The ‘Build Studios’ summer social provided a fantastic opportunity for members of the workspace to mingle outside the office. The networking event was the first of its kind for three years due to the Covid-19 safety measures of 2020 and 2021. The venue was on the top floor of ‘Build Studios’ Westminster Bridge home, allowing the attendees to chat casually while overlooking beautiful views of central London. It was a special occasion for all who came, given the 18th floor is only usually accessible to those who live in Urbanest- the student accommodation in the upper part of the building.
The change in scenery was a break from socialising at the coffee machine or at a desk full of laptops and allowed all members to meet each other as they come into the office on different days of the week. Fresh connections were made between new start-up companies from the Built environment sector and more established industry players while consuming cupcakes, cocktails, and falafel wraps. The CEO, Helen Santer, made a speech expressing her gratitude to everyone involved in supporting the charity, reminding members that their contributions fund Build Studio’s educational outreach programmes that help diversify the industry one careers session in school at a time.
Aside from those who rent the co-working space, the staff who run Build were also in attendance, bringing friends and family to share the evening with. The event reinforced the sense of community at Build Studios and emphasised the importance of the charity work to all the members of the social enterprise, Build Workspace, who kindly funded the refreshments. It closed with new contacts being made, ideas exchanged, and a stunning pink Waterloo sunset to top it off.
