We have relaunched our flagship Careers Enrichment Programme for Year 7 students at Oasis Academy Southbank. Our mission is to inspire the next generation by introducing young people to the built environment and showcasing a wide range of career opportunities.

This term’s content explores different career paths within the built environment whilst  encouraging students to reflect on their own surroundings — considering how a space can influence our emotions, what makes an inclusive neighbourhood and how cities can be more sustainable. 

The programme also invites built environment professionals to share insight into their roles and how their careers have evolved. Carole Powell, head of public realm at WeAreWaterloo came to talk to the students about her career in placemaking – starting with street market management at Lower Marsh Market and project managing the installation of the Christmas lights in Oxford Street. She spoke about public art and the positive effect it can have on local areas, looking at large, big-budget schemes in the West End and small scale projects in Clapham.
